Coolangatta boasts some of the region’s most beautiful beaches and best surfing. The most challenging surf break is Point Danger while Kirra Point is also popular among the more experienced locals. The rugged headland of Point Danger gives way to delightful Rainbow Bay where gentle surf offers a safe haven to small children. Further north is the tree-studded Greenmount headland, the perfect vantage point to watch the sun rise over crystal waters. Rainbow Bay and Greenmount Beach also offer gentler breaks better for beginner surfers.

The Coolangatta Gold is one of the most gruelling physical events on the planet and it is now run annually on the beaches of the Gold Coast. Each year the event continues to grow in popularity – a record 500 competitors took part in individual and team events from Australia, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, France, Britain and the US contested the Coolangatta Gold in 2009.
